Preventative
Healthcare
Yearly or bi-annual comprehensive
examinations by a skilled veterinarian
are essential in detecting health problems
early.
Comprehensive Physical Exam
Through
AAHV comprehensive physical exam, our
doctors will assess the following on
your pet: cardiovascular system, urinary
and reproductive system, central nervous
system, eyes, ears, skin, coat, mouth,
teeth, gums, body condition and weight.
Blood Parasite
Screen
Blood parasite screens are recommended once a year.
The presence of heartworms in dogs, cats or ferrets is detected through microfilaria
and antigen screening. We strongly recommend that
all dogs, cats and ferrets be on a heartworm preventative
year round. Ehrlichia and Lyme's disease,
two tick-borne diseases that can be easily transmitted
to dogs, are part of your dog's parasite screen.
Fecal Examination
This exam is intended to detect the presence of internal
parasites in your pet. Certain types of these parasites can
infect people too. It is essential to screen your
pet every six months or yearly, depending on the
parasite preventative your pet is on.
CBC (Complete
Blood Count) and Chemistry Panel
CBC's are recommended on a
yearly basis, because it is a good
indicator for anemia and possible
infection. Serum chemistries check
liver, kidney and endocrine functions.
Together these tests help to assess
your pets optimum health and may
indicate potential health problems
before symptoms appear.
