Dan Jordan, DVM
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Dr. Jordan holds a DVM from Texas A&M Veterinary School of Medicine and has practiced in the Houston area for over 26 years. In 1995, he moved his practice to central Houston and opened Animal Avian Hospital of the Village. In addition to providing devoted care to dogs and cats, he has a passion for exotic animals and injured wildlife that began in childhood. Dr. Jordan nurtured his passion, and as he grew older, recognized the need for expert medical care for exotic animals when his mother could not find a veterinarian for her sick Amazon parrot. Both clients and staff agree that Dan is a gifted doctor, incredible in his practice of the art of medicine. Fundamental time tested basics, woven together with the most current, state of the art technology is the driving force that keeps Dr. Jordan ahead of the game. Combining the various degrees of healing medicine is his passion. Applying his knowledge and providing care for his patients and personal service to their owners supply the synergy that is the backbone of AAHV.

Shared Moment: The nurturing aspects of Dr. Jordan’s personality are not only evident in his practice, but are also forefront in his family life. He enjoys spending time with Machel, his wife, and their two energetic sons, Dayne and Sean. Their personal life reflects their mutual passions. Their own pets include a hedgehog, Western hognose snake, a parrot, several dogs, cats, and horses. In 2005, Dan was voted “Veterinarian of the Year” by the Texas Medical Veterinary Association. Additionally, he is an active member of the following professional organizations:

  Machel Elam Jordan
Certified Practice Manager

Machel, the practice manager at AAHV, wears many hats during the course of each day. From PR specialist, to ace trouble-shooter, to landscape architect, to pet photographer, to staff trainer, Machel is focused on meeting and exceeding client expectations by making sure every detail is attended to, whether it be the aesthetics or operations of the clinic. The constant change within the clinic provides challenge for Machel, and the opportunity to experience variety and use all the many talents she possesses provides her reward. As for working so closely with her husband, Dr. Jordan, Machel believes that because of their mutual respect, intimacy, and deep sense of personal responsibility, they are able to empower each other. She also asserts that keeping a family attitude enables the staff at AAHV to connect heart to heart with both clients and pets.

Shared Moment: Machel’s artistic nature is reflected in her picture. Behind her is a mural that represents the menagerie of animals that visit AAHV on a routine basis. An accomplished artist, Karrine, designed the mural that took several weeks from start to finish in order to create the desired effect: As the mural is viewed from a distance, a certain perspective is achieved, but as one moves closer, new discoveries become evident that could not be seen from afar. Machel says, “In a way it’s kind of like life. On the surface, things appear one way, but upon closer examination we are able to discover the many wonders life affords us.” Spoken like a true visionary.
